I don't see (read) anything that seems negative at all.  Maybe its just me.  Regarding your "visual" shock, I can relate to that.  The same happened to me when I went to Turkey for a couple weeks.  Everything you saw and touched was different.  From the landscapes, to the food (tasty), to the cars.  It felt like one discovery after another; I &lt;br&gt;loved it.  By the way, if your ever in Istanbul, you MUST see the underground cistern.
