the organising comitee has always talked about this in terms of work-in-progress. an important part of our plan was always to evaluate everything after the first edition was over. bertrand delacretaz has taken on the responsibility to design this evaluationprocess.
why did the swiss blog awards not manage to get the romandie involved? a very interesting question. most likely it will be an interplay of a number of factors that lead to this outcome. what we are saying now is, let us not jump to conclusions.
we also pointed out the obvious, that very few romandie bloggers promoted or even talked about the awards. we did so after quite a few people, and you very much included steph, had already started to attack us, and in no gentle terms. we did so after everybody and their dog in romandie seemed to already have made up their mind that there was only one reason that lead to this disaster, and that reason was the shortcomings of the organisers. pointing fingers at us.
let us keep things in perspective, for thsi first edition of the award we designed it in a certain way, declaring this to be an experiment, a thesis, a work-in-progress. we were convinced it could work. as it turns out it only partially worked. let us now evaluate it and look at it in as broad a manner as possible. then we will draw our conclusions. thats what we proposed all along.
and since i already know that i won't win any popularity contests in romandie anytime soon, let me just add this: i claim that had you, stephanie booth, spent not even half the time you have by now spent to critisise us to promote the swiss blog awards instead, we would look at a very different picture and have several romandie bloggers nominated. i am 100% sure of that. i know you dont like to hear it, but this was our design, by choice and after much scrutiny we went for a bottom up model.
The "had you spent then half the time you now spend" argument is totally irrelevant. Back then, I did not have the time. Now, I have more time, and the whole thing has totally blown up.
I'd like you to point to the comments where I'm "attacking" you.
from the beginning the SBAW had the focus on the romandie. it was clear to do it bienne. it was clear that we need at least one person from the french part in the ok. it was clear that we do all press communication in 3 languages. we have bleublog as partner and the event in bienne is held in french and german.
at the end it came out the wrong way. i'm not happy to have no 'non german (english)' blogs on the nomination list. i was expecting at least the halve of the nominated blogs from the french part.
i hope that many romands show up on the event in bienne to be at least there one big swiss blogging community.
